First Aid Child Safety
We train from the Baby Clinics in Cape Town, Durbanville, Rondebosch and Constantia.
Our First Aid Child Safety in Cape Town teaches your nanny to be aware of dangers in the home, how to implement CPR and First Aid in the case of an emergency.
Our nanny safety course is a 2 week module. Our aim is to teach the nanny about potential hazards in and outside the home, how to childproof the house and how to effectively deal with emergency situations which can help save a young child’s life. We also look briefly at the importance of a routine, how it can make a baby feel safe, and how a nanny can effectively time manage her tasks and prioritise her childcare responsibilities in a safe environment. We also cover the basic of HIV and TB and the precautions to take against these diseases when caring for a young child.
The First Aid Child Safety course runs for two mornings over two weeks. The nannies will receive a First Aid/CPR certificate, a First Aid/CPR manual and a safety checklist. Please review our First Aid Cape Town training schedule here.
Week 1: Routine, Safety and Childproof measures
We cover the importance of following a mother’s routine and how it can help make a baby feel secure particularly if there is more than one carer or family member who are involved in looking after a baby or young child. We discuss separation anxiety and how nannies can help the baby deal with this. We are inspired by both the Baby Sense and BBC’s Super Nanny Jo Frost and are happy to discuss these methods with the nannies should the mothers request assistance here.
We also teach the nannies how to effectively manage their time between childcare and domestic work. They learn how to manage and prioritize their responsibilities. We teach the nannies how they can childproof the home and how they can effectively stop 90% of accidents by being aware of potential dangers in the home. We discuss these dangers by going through the entire house and outside the home. We teach the nannies good practice on how to avoid transmitting these diseases in the home. Please visit our HIV FAQ’s if you would like further information.
Week 2: First Aid & CPR for nannies
In an intensive three hour session, our First Aid trainer covers all the paediatric essentials of First Aid, including CPR and Mouth to Mouth. The nannies are required to practice repeatedly on baby dolls in order to perfect the CPR technique. They are also taught how to deal with all home emergencies like choking, burns, stings, poisoning, drowning etc and what numbers to dial for emergency help. The training material used for the CPR/choking component of the course is in accordance with the requirements of The American Heart Association and the Resuscitation Council.
Our First Aid Child Safety workshop is a basic safety course. If you would like your nanny to obtain a more comprehensive overview of infant and childcare, nutrition, hygiene and stimulating play, we recommend our comprehensive nanny training workshop. It offers the best value for money and your nannies walk away empowered by what they have learned. Your nanny will receive a Nanny Training certificate and manual which are recognised by domestic and placement agencies in the Western Cape.
