About us
About Super Nannies and our team
Our team includes a group of dynamic trainers and service driven placement agents – all mothers themselves that believe in empowering our learners mainly domestic workers and nannies through nanny training. Our workshops, like First Aid and CPR, are designed to enable nannies to use the knowledge and skills that they have learnt and apply it within their employer’s home as well as in their community and their own families.
The nanny training team
Karin Thomsen is a co founder and first aid trainer. She started training nannies when she was a single mother. She hired and trained her nanny and realized the importance of trained help whilst having to work and support her family.
Over the course of four years she has trained over 600 nannies. “I believe that we are privileged in this country to have the abundance of choice in domestic help at such a reasonable cost to the family”
Karin is an avid trainer with a 15 year background in marketing, teaching and corporate facilitation as well as domestic training and placements. She has two young children.
Christine Rebe is also a co founder, trainer and super mom of two energetic children. She comes with plenty of patience and an abundance of knowledge concerning babies and children. Having facilitated autistic kids, reared a colicky baby for 8 months and a proprioceptive sensory child, she understands the complexities when is comes to rearing difficult children and young babies. She believes in having a good support system and her nanny/domestic worker has filled that gap.
Our First Aid trainers are mothers and have worked in the emergency medical services for several years. They are registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as well as the Resuscitation Council of Southern Africa. The CPR training module is endorsed by the American Heart Association.
We train nannies and parents. We choose our trainers carefully based on their experience and training abilities. Our practical approach to First Aid and CPR has been a great source of inspiration for all our nannies and domestic workers that we have trained.
Our domestic nanny agents
Chyann Lotriet is our Cape Town & Southern Suburb Nanny Agent.
Chyann Lotriet is a single mom to a wonderful 5 year old son and comes from a main stream recruiting background. She has excellent people skills and is able to facilitate both the nannies and mothers through difficult times. Chyann is service driven and says that “ I really enjoys finding mothers the “super nanny” and nannies the “super family.”
Hayley Stirk is our Northern Suburb Super Nanny Agent.
Hayley is a busy mother of 2 children, a 5 years old girl and 2 year old boy. Hayley originally worked in the travel industry on the client service side. She finds working as a nanny agent rewarding especially from a client interaction and empowerment aspect. Hayley says “While at home I also employed a nanny for my children, Ethel, who has become part of our family and is very dear to us. I then realised how important your relationship is with your nanny is, as she basically steps into the “mother” shoes when you have to go back to work.”
We work closely with third party childcare practitioners to ensure that our course content is always up to date, rich in practical advice and easy to apply in the family home and work environment.
Why choose our super nanny training services?
Our outreach program for nannies and domestic workers
Parallel to our belief in empowering nannies and domestic workers through training, we also believe in offering our services to the wider community by providing an outreach training program . For every workshop that we run, we believe in providing our time for free and are committed to training one unemployed member of our community so they may have the opportunity to find work privately or through the placement agencies.
We have linked our efforts with two support groups:
1) Fisantekraal Centre for Development in Durbanville.
2) Young Moms Support in the South Peninsula Area
Young Moms Support is a support group for young and teenage moms in the South Peninsula area. Most of them have not completed matric, and are most in their late teens, early twenties. These young moms come from diverse cultural, family, financial and educational backgrounds but all are united in their commitment to their children, challenging society’s stereotypical view of young moms as neglectful, incompetent or even abusive.
Here we offer childcare training and placements. They can use our childcare training and first aid in their own parenting as well as perhaps opening doors for future work as a nanny.
